Getting Work Done Without Authority

Too often, influence is viewed as something we either come by naturally or simply do not have at all. Those who have it are lucky, and the rest simply have to work harder in other ways. That view tends to represent influence as a birthright rather than a skill. Yet, there are individuals in nearly every work setting who have increased their influence over time. Experience and practice – and even some valuable advice, have enabled them to learn how to influence. Indeed, influence is a skill that can be taught, practiced, learned and adapted.

During the Influence Edge workshop, participants will:

• Understand various influence behaviors and how they can be used effectively
• Learn how to plan for situations where influence skills matter most, such as getting approvals, giving advice, granting permission, gaining needed information, working with and through others to make something happen, or any situation where causing others to take direct action in pursuit of one’s goal is important
• Learn how to assess situations to determine what influence behaviors will be most effective in reaching a desired outcome
• Increase effectiveness in overcoming resistance to one’s opinion or desired course of action

• Managers, team leaders, project leaders, supervisors, customer service representatives, IT professionals – anyone who needs to get things done through others.
